Painting: Pike & Shotte/Pikemans Lament - English Civil War: Parliamentarian Trotters

I have completed part of this months target, the English civil war parliamentarian trotters.

As ever the majority of the colours used are from the Vallejo colour range, unless indicated otherwise.

I started with a grey undercoat.

I painted the riders first, starting with the tunic using Plague Brown (72.039), then the pistols wood with Beasty Brown (72.043), the metal for the pistol was painted with Gunmetal grey (70.863).
Leather including the sword scabbard was painted with Charred Brown (72.045)
Boots were painted with GW Abaddon black
Any other metal (armour, gauntlet, buckles, helmet etc) was painted with Chainmail Silver (72.053)
The sword hilt was painted with Bright Bronze (72.057) then Glorious Gold (72.056)
The sash and trousers were painted with Imperial Blue (72.020)
I tried to paint the hair differently; one in GW Iyanden Darksun (Foundation Yellow), one in Beasty Brown (72.043), one in GW Abaddon Black, One in Leather (72.040), one in Earth (72.062) and one in Plague Brown (72.039)
Flesh was painted with Tan (72.066) then highlighted with Dwarf skin(72.041), then washed with AP soft tone
Once all the base colours were on and the riders were tidied various washes were applied.
Tunic & light colour hair: AP soft tone
Leather and dark hair: AP Strong tone
Pistol and sword hilt: P3 Armour Wash
Sash and trousers: AP Blue tone, then highlight with Magic blue (72.021)

The horses were painted using the instructions found here: https://www.facebook.com/brushstroke.painter/photos/ms.c.eJxFzcENwDAMQtGNKoLt2Oy~;WCXUpNenjyCUgKJzdezUQ8OoDFofCMQkon4oQ84B0pOdtxhD32KlJ3FeFNWFrbkTjgvWCyN9HpY~-.bps.a.2094007537507166.1073741883.1691782607729663/2094009374173649/?type=3&theater
The paints indicated in that link are all GW paints so I used the dakkadakka forum paint conversion chart https://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Paint_Range_Compatibility_Chart.
With the exception of Eshin Grey which I had to make by mixing black and Cold Grey (72.050).
The saddle and various straps were painted with Charred Brown (72.045). On some of the horses I then painted the saddle with Beasty Brown (72.043). The saddles were washed with AP strong tone.

The bases were then painted Charred Brown (72.045), covered in PVA and dipped in sand, once dry the sand was painted Charred Brown (72.045), covered in PVA again and covered in static grass.

Summary:
Rider:
  • Tunic: Plague Brown (72.039) wash with AP Soft Tone

Painting: Games Workshop: Warhammer 40k: Genestealer Cult: Clamavus

As per my previous updates I have finished the Clamavus

Now the thing I have learnt with the Clamavus is that this model should be painted on the sprue!. I am a firm believer in building models and then painting them as this usually creates a better bond on the contact points. However I wish in this case I had made an exception as there are lots of awkward areas that can't be reached once the model is built and I know they are there...mocking me in their unpainted...nay! naked form!

Anyway...moving on.

This model was painted using mostly Vallejo colour range paints, unless stated otherwise.

I started undercoating the model in Grey

Next I painted the cloth with GW Mephiston Red
Then I painted the staff with chainmail (72.053) but I wasn't keen so I painted it bright brass, which was still too bright so I rummaged through my paint collection where I found a dark metallic paint called Tinny Tin (72.060) which was exactly what I was looking for!
The speakers, control panel and backpack were painted in chainmail
Next I painted the pistol holster, tapes, cable to the speaker staff, boots and any straps in GW Abbadon Black
I painted the radiowave locator in Stonewall grey (72.049)
Then I paint a button on the tape deck and some cables with GW Mephiston Red
Next I painted the remaining cables in Iyanden Darksun (GW foundation yellow) then added black stripes
Then the flesh was painted with Tan (72.066)
The exterior of the book under foot was painted with Charred brown (72.045),, and the pages painted with plague brown (72.039)
Next I washed the whole model in AP dark Tone

Once the dark tone was dry I highlight the armour with Stonewall grey (72.049)
The cloth was highlighted with Bloody red (72.010)
The flesh was then painted with Dwarf flesh (72.041) and highlighted in GW Elf flesh

The base was then coated in GW Astra Granite debris, washed with AP dark tone, then highlighted with stonewall grey, and the edge of the base of painted black.

A brief summary
  • Cloth, some wires and a button on the tape player in GW Mephiston Red
  • Gun holster, straps, tapes & boots in GW Abbadon Black
  • speaker, backpack, control panel in Chainmail (72.053)
  • Radiowave in Stonewall grey (72.049)
  • Cables in GW foundation yellow & GW Abbadon Black
  • Book Charred brown (72.045), with the paper plague brown (72.039)
  • Cult symbol bright bronze (72.057)
  • Flesh: Tan (72.066), AP Dark Tone, Dwarf flesh (72.041), GW Elf skintone highlight

Painting: Games Workshop: Warhammer 40k: Astra Militarum (Imperial Guard)/Genestealer cult brood brothers

After painting my Astra Militarum/GC Brood brothers I thought it best to document this quick process I am following.

For these I have gone for an urban look; concentrating on grey.

  • Touch up the grey areas with Cold grey (72.050) where I've gone over with other paints or where the undercoat hasn't reached
  • Cover everything except the flesh in AP Dark Tone
  • Once the Dark tone has dried I dry brush Stonewall grey (72.049) all over, then I paint the iconography with the same.
  • Paint the bayonet blade with Silver (72.052).
  • Then the flesh is painted with Dwarf skin (72.041)

Painting: Games Workshop: Age of Sigmar: Nighthaunt: Glaive wraith stalkers

Following the completion of my Glaive wraith stalkers as part of my February objective I thought it's time that I document the process I follow, although it's similar to the Bladegheist Revenants post, there are some subtle differences

In most cases I used Vallejo game colour paints, where a different make was used it's indicated as such.

I started with a White undercoat

Next I painted the Glaive blades and fencing on the bases with GW Abaddon black

I wanted the blade to look old and rusted so used the following process:
Dark flesh (72.044) dabbed,
Beasty brown (72.043) dabbed
Parasite brown (72.042) dabbed
Orange Fire (72.008) dabbed
Chainmail (72.053) drybrushed along the edges

Next I painted the glaive shaft with Charred brown (72.045)

The I painted the skull heads and spine spikes with Bonewhite (72.034), after which I washed with AP strong tone. Once this dried I applied a light coat of Bonewhite (72.034)

Next I used White primer (72.002) to go over the areas where the metal colours spilt over (this can take several coats), I also applied White primer (72.002) where the undercoat hadn't quite covered sufficiently

Then I applied AP Green tone on ethereal robes, starting with lots at the top and moving downwards so it thins out as it move down.

Next I touch up the arms with Dead White (72.001) and then dry brush the green cloth with the same white

With the models complete I covered the base in sand, painted the base in Charred Brown (72.045), the edges in black. The, using PVA I stick cotton wool to the base to create a ghostly fog look

Well that was quick...

I have already completed my planned projects for this month...

It seems that a combination of snow days, hobbying when I should be working from home and a simple paint scheme has resulted in the completion of my planned projects way earlier than expected.

Luckily I pre-ordered the Genestealer Cult Clamavus so now that he's arrived he's go straight to the top of the painting pile!

Painting: Games Workshop: Age of Sigmar: Nighthaunt: Bladegheist Revenants

Following the completion of my Bladegheist Revenants as part of my January objective I thought it's time that I document the process I follow.

In most cases I used Vallejo game colour paints, where a different make was used it's indicated as such.

I started with a White undercoat

Next I painted the swords, masks and chains with GW Abaddon black

I wanted the sword hilts to look old and rusted so went for a copper oxide look, using the following process:
Bright Bronze (72.057)
Glorious Gold (72.056)
AP Green tone
Watered down turquoise (72.024)
Watered down Livery green (72.033)

Next I painted the sword with multiple coats of thinned Silver (72.052)

The chains and masks were painted with Chainmail (72.053), with the hooks being painted Bright Bronze then Glorious Gold (I find find bronze makes a great undercoat for gold)

I then washed the chains and masks with AP dark tone

Next I used Dead White (72.001) to go over the areas where the metal colours spilt over (this can take several coats), I also applied Dead White (72.001) where the undercoat hadn't quite covered sufficiently

Then I applied AP green tone on ethereal robes, starting with lots at the top and moving downwards so it thins out as it move down.

Next I touch up the arms with Dead White (72.001) and then dry brush the green cloth with white

Some of the models had gravestones on the base these were painted as follows:
Sombre grey (72.048)
Cold grey (72.050)
Stonewall grey (drybrush) (72.049)

With the models complete I covered the base in sand, painted the base in Charred Brown (72.045), the edges in black. The, using PVA I stick cotton wool to the base to create a ghostly fog look
